It may not have been slick or sexy, but it did a spectacular job of showing what a newbie can expect from the fastest sailing boats there are. We know we’ve seen this stuff before, but we have something of a love affair with the Gulf States’ carbon-masted pseudo-traditional Dhows. The Emiratis do too – their big races frequently feature million-dollar purses and huge fleets, and they have to strictly control the class or the arms race would drive the traditional craft into AC budget territory. They’ve already had to restrict the crews to Emiratis only after some of the wealthier locals brought in Kiwi Cup stars a few years back – yet they relaxed the rules last weekend to allow the Volvo Ocean Race crews aboard. The Multi One Design continues to provide the brightest gleam on the horizon for sheer spectacle, and their media team is doing a nice job keeping the fires stoked as they roll into their first big test this summer.

The age old question of ‘which one’s fastest’ will always be interesting regardless of how useless the comparison, and the score was certainly settled between the kites, moths, and 49ers in Miami last week, at least in light air and flat water. Watch the race below.

The Rev Petey from Penalty Box Productions is back to working full-time in production of his legendary videos, and he’s put together a nice promo reel of his work for all of you to drool over and hopefully, hire him for your big event. Very few do it better, and none with the humor and creativity of this guy – or his bar bill.
