The on-the-water train wreck that is the Sea Shepherds began their 2012 anti-whaling season with a bang…and a big ol’ crack! The fast scout ship Brigitte Bardot started to come apart after chasing the Japanese factory whaler Nisshin Maru through big seas about 1500 NM SW of Fremantle. The fast trimaran will likely stay afloat while Shepherd flagship the Steve Irwin comes to her rescue.

We almost wish that these guys weren’t doing something so worthwhile to so many people; it’s hard to laugh at the silliness of their ‘war’ when they’re busy challenging one nation’s disregard for international treaties and basic decency in the slaughter of some of the world’s most intelligent creatures.
