little miss sunshine

40 Degrees is looking for the sun…

It’s day thirteen of theĀ Transat Jacques Vabre with just about 2400 miles still to go to Costa Rica. We are finally sending it in full on downwind conditions but haven’t seen the sun for more than an hour since the start. I love going super fast off the wind in a Class 40 but living conditions are starting to get, shall we say, swampy. Myself and Hannah are hand steering 24/7 in the slightly confused sea state still in full blown foul weather gear at all times on deck. We are really looking forward to the clouds giving way to some Caribbean sunshine as we make our way southwest at a rapid pace. We are currently hanging on to third place and awaiting to see how we do when we converge with the leading two boats in a couple days time. For the moment though we just keep sending it hard and trying to keep the boat and ourselves in one piece, maybe even with a little sleep thrown in for good measure.

Hopefully next update I will be barefoot in shorts and a t-shirt with a floppy hat on, 13 days of sea boots is getting old.
