say goodbye, wave hello

Some say Larry Ellison will never let his 81’ Farr maxi Sayonara go because of the memories associated with her victory in the tragic ’98 Hobart. In any case, her near decade-long retirement in a shed at Holland, MI yacht yard Eldean is over as of this past weekend, and the all-conquering ILC maxi is headed west on three trucks as you read this. Will she go into storage in the Bay area for another 10 years, or might we see her mounted on one of San Fran’s piers as part of the AC34 race village, as befits her illustrious history? Photo thanks to Willie Lynch, title inspiration thanks to the haunting David Grey, and check out the Sayonara thread for more about this historic racing yacht.
