We just got back from racing models in Antigua, they have a cool fleet of LARGE boats, 3 classes: 5,6 & 7 foot. The boat we brought "The Box" (our first attempt at taking on the fleet) had a great run winning the 5 and, 6 foot classes (with stern scoop added) and the "Champion of Champions Race" beating the top 7 footer. The "Box" was loosely designed around a V5 ACC boat (I know you guys don’t love them…. but the basic proportions make for a very good model)
Our hull was built in plywood & is actually a hard chine design from bow to stern. Also, We built a Carbon mast over an airfoil dingy spreader section that features an internal bolt rope groove like a real rig. It came out 60% lighter & much stiffer than anything we could buy for the boat. Considering our extreme draft & bulb weight we needed a stiff rig. I think we we’re right. Photos here.
