The sun angle, intensity, and length of day are the same as Labor Day- except….. Only fools would be concentrating on ice sailing!
It seems- however- that there a lot of fools out there. You might not find these fools in places such as Miami, Dubai, San Diego, or Auckland, but you will find them in Northern Europe, Canada, Russia, and the northern U.S. This particular group of fools had more fun sailing yesterday [Sunday 03 April 2011] than some people have in a year. The venue was Lake Sunapee New Hampshire- situated at 1,100 feet above sea level and a climactic world away from nearby Boston, MA. A splinter group did the "Tour de Phare" a tour of Lake Sunapee’s 3 lighthouses. The total distance is between 8-12 miles. –
What is sometimes referred to as "seasonal lag" accounts for slabs of ice that remain sturdy while daffodils bloom not far away. Winter weary folks are dreaming of summer while the die hard winter sailors enjoy some of the best and most freakish sailing of the year. – Anarchist William.
