The MOD70 is a new VPLP designed multihull one-design concept now turned reality at the Keroman Technologies shipyard. The plan is that the boats create a new international circuit that combines performance, spectacle and sustainable development. Here is the first boat with the launch and christening planned for March 25. The boat will be skippered by the Swiss Stève Ravussin, who has been involved in the idea from the beginning, and the second boat, Veolia Environnement, is being assembled at the moment and Roland Jourdain will be the skipper. Michel Desjoyeaux and Foncia plan to launch the third unit at end of August. The fourth boat will be sailed by the Gitana Team. More teams will be announced during the year.
The program will include only crewed races, with a European Tour and and transatlantic race every year, starting in 2012. A World Tour (with stopovers) will be organized every 3 years, starting in 2013. The first transatlantic race will be announced in April this year and will be between the USA and France in July 2012.
The whole program will include an eco responsible aspect – A foundation has been created : the Multi One Attitude Foundation whose objective is to work on the preservation of the oceans and the water on our planet. It will be present in the race village of the championship with a pavilion that will be the center of the village. The first MOD70 will be the ambassador boat of the foundation and will be named “Race for Water”. More here.
