The Sydney 38 National Championships were held in Geelong as part of Audi Victoria Week – the
largest sailing event in Australia.

13 boats battled tough competition in winds ranging from 3 knots to gusts of over 30, with some
getting a little unstuck with the pressure on the downwind legs. After two days and five races, the
series leader had switched positions numerous times, with the trophy still in hot contention with 5
boats possible winners on the last day of racing.

The Goat, a Sydney boat and crew skippered by Bruce Foye, held a win and a second in the final two
races to claim the championships over another Sydney boat, Zen, while local Victorian boats
Challenge and Chutzpah 38 took out third and fourth for the series.
