War vet Ronnie Simpson is well known to much of the SA community and the West Coast racing fraternity, a magnet for all sorts of crazy events that have been well-documented on these pages. A near-death in Iraq and the hard recovery, a mid-ocean sinking and the subsequent rescue, a bike trip across half the world, a successful solo Transpac on a boat donated by an SA reader, another near-sinking and the subsequent keel-less delivery back to San Francisco – what the hell is he gonna do for an encore?
The answer is…a Mini Transat.
Former SA contributor Tim “WetAss” Zimmerman wrote a profile of Ronnie for the February issue of Outside Magazine. You may know all the events already, but this piece is worth reading – so check it out. Photo by Outside photog Alex Tehrani of Ronnie in his SA gear and doing some weird toe-tiller thing.
