southbound

So I get a phone call from an old friend asking me to help deliver his boat to San Diego last week and my first reaction was hell no.  He decides to guarantee me that it will blow 30 and that leaving at 7am is a great idea when I am on vacation trying to sleep in.  I looked out the window at Javiers (4 Margaritas Deep) in CDM and saw that the wind was indeed blowing and bombing down the coast in a sick Hobie 33 was probably a good call.  Morning came and I shook off a Tequila hangover, got some coffee and told the girlfriend that it was "Big Thursday" and I had to go.

Got down to the boat to witness a glorious sunny morning with 0-2kts of wind out of the South.  Good call Hippie this looks like fun!  Well after an attitude adjuster we motored for about 30 minutes in the flat water and to our "World Class" Navigators credit, the wind came in from the direction we wanted with the velocity we needed for a good time.  Top speed of 20+kts (paddle wheel kept coming out of the water), sunshine and good friends made this the best trip to SD I ever had.  Rum and Coke at the yacht club and a ride home and I was back in Laguna Beach at 7pm, not bad for a full day.

Perfect way to deliver a boat and get my last fix for 2010.  I opted out of the NYD Race but the guys went out and had a good time trying to beat up on the Tigers.  Almost in there but the Ed is always hard to beat, and I heard some other Tiger actually got him, must have been god giving them a late Christmas present.  Enjoy the Video (make sure you select highest quality) and if you have a short attention span skip to 2:45 for a H33 doing 20kts.  – Keith Magnussen
