One of the celebrated fishing schooners of the early 20th century, the Nova Scotian Bluenoseremains a legend in Atlantic Canada nearly a century after her launch. Once the fastest of her kind under sail in the world, Bluenose was built as both racer and fisher, and though she foundered in the 40s on a reef, her replica – Bluenose II – has been sailing as an ambassador and sail training ship since the 1960s.
Well, it’s time for Bluenose II to undergo a comprehensive refit in the same Lunenburg Shipyard where the original Bluenose was built in 1921. The best part about the location is their new live webcam setup that will follow the construction right through 2011 and her relaunch. It’s a slick interface that lets you see what’s happened in time lapse over the past 24 hours and it provides weather and other information about the site. Definitely a cool idea for any major project that’s got a public following…or wants one.
