Only god and Sir Ellicoutts know if San Francisco will ever see America’s Cup racing, but we were glad to hear Farr 30 Class Prez and former Sailor Chick of the Week Deneen Demourkas confirm that San Francisco would be the first West Coast venue for the Farr (Mumm) 30 in the class’s illustrious history. With the Tour De France a memory and the resulting availability of a lot of European boats at affordable prices, it wouldn’t be a stretch to see more than a dozen Mumms on the line in September. With good regional action in SoCal, the Pacific NW and the Mid-Atlantic coast, the Class seems well on its way to recovery. Remember that they didn’t even having a World Championship in 2009 after the Class was reduced to a shambles by poor management and conflicts between the European and American fleets.
Go to the Farr 30 site to read the announcement, and make your plans to race the baddest little offshore raceboat ever in the kind of conditions she adores.
