a fish called sir?

a fish called sir?

Our clever friend Magnus started something a couple of weeks ago on the Rul69 Blog that we just have to lend our support to:  A campaign to see Bob Fisher honored by the Queen with a knighthood.  Understand that we don’t really know what the hell that means or why anyone would want it – it doesn’t even come with a Rolex as far as we know, and the only OBE in our circle of friends got pitched out of his house for cheating on his wife even though he was too drunk to remember either the cheating or the throwing out.

But recognition is important to people, and ironically it can be most important to those who have avoided seeking it out.  But if there’s one Pommie bastard that has contributed more to the flavor, the spirit, and the uniquely British attitude that is modern British sailing, it’s Fish.  He’s won some big ones, still sails his own boat, still drinks his gin like a proper Brit should, and his historical work on this history of America’s Cup is the bible on the subject.

So for the Brits (this means all you expats too, don’t think we don’t know where you are), go to this application page and do what they tell you, or call your MP and tell him to make the Queen hit Fish in the arm with a sword.  That’s how it works, right?  Hit up the Facebook group to knight the Fish here.
