All this talk about rich Sailor parents buying out the poorer ones with an Opti, advertised on the front page of SA is a bit annoying. We do not know yet how parents, who are buying into the Uber Opti bullshit, are communicating this, the Uber Opti bullshit, to their kids. They can be spoiled, that is for sure. But these kids will be spoiled anyway cause their parents are in my eyes not choosing the right education. Nothing against a high Quality Opti but we have chosen a different path into Opti Kid education.

We launched a boat building and a sail making seminar for purely kids during the Hamburg boat show, in Germany. Everyday we had different kids divided into two groups. The boat and the sail group. And after 2-3 hours of working on the project we gave them free-time to stroll on the show and afterwards another 2 hours to work on the other job. This way they got an idea of both worlds. Worked out good. Different groups from sailing clubs or schools everyday.

An Opti a day. A Sail a day. Of course all pre-cut by us, being in the knowledge, but the kids learned a lot and you could pick up their enthusiasm. Yes, and in the evening, they were able to sail one of the DIY Optis in the pool. Look how nice and light it sits in the water. Now that is an DIY Uber Opti! – Anarchist Manfred.
