poor get poorer
In what looks to be a stunningly poor display of seamanship, the crew of a Beneteau 456 abandoned her some 90 miles east of the North Carolina coast in 40-knot winds and 12-foot seas…because they had 3 inches of water in the boat. Apparently, the men couldn’t find the source of Celedon’s leak, so off they went in a helicopter, despite the fact that they’d been keeping up with the leak for hours with the manual bilge pump.
Facts are still sketchy for this one, but if the news and the CG report are accurate, just one more trip that sailors everywhere should be pissed about, and hopefully, we’ll teach our friends and families better. Discuss it here. USCG Lt. Col. Frank Wolfe Photo.
