orbital
From designer Rob Shaw…
It has been a busy few weeks getting the Orbit complete in time to make the start of the New Zealand Coastal Classic. The boat is a 10 metre (32 foot) flush deck canter built from cedar and glass with foam decks. Keel is canted with a rope purchase system same as the 30’s; with carbon rigging from Future Fibres. She is set up to sail either short handed or fully crewed with 6; the owner did the coastal with a crew of 4. This was the boat’s first outing and all working well. Will be a rocket once they have couple more sails and get the systems all sorted.
(Btw, a great overall result for the Shaws, coming in 5th, 6th, and 7th over the line behind the RP 60 something Limit and three 50 footers and getting 1st, 2nd and 3rd on PHRF overall, from 198 entries. Orbit beat the new Class 40 over the line by 20 minutes too!)
