match ’em up
The lastest from Kinley Fowler and MRT.
With the AC34 pushing the sailing community into a world of wings and cats, the Louis Vuitton Cup in Dubai is set to be a farewell to the old generation boats. Although BMW Oracle are the ones getting rid of the Version 5’s, they are certainly keen to give them a proper send off.
To dust off the cobwebs that two years of speed testing on a tri has brought about, Spithill gave the call up to fellow Australian match racer Torvar Mirsky who has been following closely in the BOR skipper’s footsteps.
The two teams went head to head in Valencia for three days of solid training.
"Go easy on them" were he instructions given to the Mirsky Racing Team who are very comfortable in the Swedish Match 40s, but after just one or two small races, the battle was on."The guys from BMW Oracle were amazing to sail against! You could see their level of skill in every tack and placement of the boat" said Mirsky.
"But the greatest thing for us were the debriefs with their coach Phillipe Presti. We have never had a coach before, so going behind the scenes of the best team in the world was an incredible opportunity for us."
With an average performance this year on the world match racing tour from MRT, they need all the help they can get for the Monsoon Cup.
Some of the tightest racing took place just outside Port America’s Cup this week, let’s see if we can use our Valencia training sessions to good effect!
