My Father, Dan Chepley Jr; passed away with his hand on the helm of his Tripp 40 "COLT 45" on Sunday in the start sequence of second race of the day. He was first to finish in the first race and was setting up for the second race. The story can be found here and comments here. Dan was a force to be reckoned with up here in the Ventura area and he was sailing competitively out of Long Beach for many years. He started racing IODs on the Long Island Sound over 30 years ago. Once he got to So Cal twenty years ago he never looked back. He was not a DNF kind of guy. Hardcore to the end. We will miss him. – Danny Chepley.
