the cup is dead. long live the cup!

the cup is dead. long live the cup!

We can’t recall the last time the racing world has been as charged up as they are today, with BMW/Oracle’s multihull announcement raising an amazing level of ire in monohull devotees worldwide.  This thread is a good example of the reaction to the news, and here’s one with a smattering of links to the media’s reaction, but early indications are that the big names will be attending, and that the fundraising machines are starting to spin.  ETNZ boss Grant Dalton thinks that Coutts’ is just spinning when he says that the cats will be cheaper than a monohull and that the new format will knock a lot of also-ran challengers out of the running. As for our comment on the groundbreaking move, we’ll defer once again to our friend Magnus, who (along with us) has been a lonely advocate in the monohull desert for just this kind of racing for years (and has even declared his Rule 69 Blog as a challenger!)

I’m putting everything up for sale, you can have the lot but I’m damn well joining this AC circuit. Sell everything, pack in the job, flog the dog, the rabbit, hell even the shirt off my back but I’m just so on this new AC it’s unreal…what a fantastic time to be in the sport. God I wish I was 20 again or a kid just coming through the youth squad…this is amazing and I just can’t get over the whiners and moaners in the Forums around the world complaining about it. YOU GUYS ARE DINOSAURS. Get with the programme you muppets! You are worse than the Euro yachting press.

This is exactly what the sport has been crying out for, for years! I can’t understand the ridiculous bumbling, illiterate buffoons who are harking back to a byegone era some 23 years ago…the game has moved on and at last we have a team that are genuinely dragging this sport kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
