the young and the restless
This weekend saw the USODA West Coast Championships come to Marina del Rey’s California Yacht
Club. Over 60 boats participated in both Championship and Green Fleet races. With conditions that
varied from light air to moderate wind and from cloudy and cool to sunny and bright, the
competitors had to bring their entire toolbox of skills to the event.
Lots of chop kept things
interesting for the sailors on the course held directly off of Venice Beach in Santa Monica Bay.
Topping the 44-boat Championship Fleet was SFYC’s Romain Screve. He was almost untouchable
the first day and never looked back from there. Frankie Dair sailed to 3-1-1-3 finishes on Day 2
and beat Quinn Wilson for 2nd place in a tie breaker. Kaili Campbell was the top placed girl. The
top 25% of the fleet punched their tickets to the 2011 USODA Team Trials in San Francisco.
