ready to go
With the Match Racing Worlds quickly approaching (Sept 20-25 in Newport, RI), we’re one week into a month of intense training in preparation for the big event. Last week we trained in Sonars with our world championship team of Liz Hall on the bow, Alice Manard trimming jib and calling tactics, and Jenn Chamberlin trimming main and kite. We had a great USSTAG training camp at the US Sailing Center in Sheboygan with coach Luther Carpenter, American teammate Sally Barkow and Lucy Macgregor’s team from GBR, who are currently ranked #1 in the ISAF rankings.
Feeling well-prepped with boat-handling and boatspeed in the Sonar, this week we are back in the Elliotts for some Olympic training and racing and to fine tune our communication and tactics before the Worlds. Monday brought some incredibly wavy conditions (who knew the lake swell could top the ocean!?), and today some wonderfully flat water practice to get us ready for the Buddy Melges Challenge, a Grade 1 regatta that begins tomorrow. Fifteen teams from eight countries will be fighting for the title of the best in the Midwest! (Just made that title up—but it’s fitting!) The event website (http://sailsheboygan.us/BMC_2010.php) will have results and live streaming video. We are first up tomorrow morning, so will be starting racing at 9AM.
Wish us luck!
