eyes on the prize
While John Casey gets things ready to rock and roll from C-Cat land in Newport, our On-The-Water Anarchy coverage team has a nail biter ahead at the Detroit Cup, with just four teams left after some extremely tight racing on the Detroit River over the past three days. Anna Tunnicliffe will face off against Laurie Jury, while guru Dave Perry pulled 21 year old gunslinger Taylor Canfield for his semifinal match.
Doesn’t it seem like just a few years ago that supposed ‘match race experts’ opined that assymetric kites made passing a lot tougher? Well, we’ve seen passing in almost every race, usually on the downwind legs, making for extremely exciting viewing. No lead has been safe, something that’s helped our live streaming webcast tally up nearly 150,000 views from 28 countries so far, numbers that have surprised even our team as we roll into the final few matches of this new Midwest classic.
Be sure to check out the semis and finals today, check the event site for results, and go to the thread for hundreds of pics and all the links to archived racing, press conferences, and ceremonies. And once we’re done streaming the awards ceremony this afternoon, it’s a straight-line drive to Newport to join JC and help blow up more misconceptions with our coverage of the Little America’s Cup – all week. Fans of sailboat racing – enjoy! Meredith Block photo.
