Perth’s Rachel Cox is sailing this week at the IFDS Disabled Worlds (see "one big family" below), and she’s our SA Sailor Chick Of The Week for her performance and attitude. Here’s a hell of an endorsement from the Anarchist who nominated her. Nice.
Rachael regularly volunteers time to assist with Sailabilty events and has helped Western Australia’s WA’s Blind Match Racing Team for their last 2 campaigns. Earlier this year, she was ranked in the top 5 in the world in two international classes – the SKUD and 2.4mR – something very few sailors ever accomplish regardless of their physical ability. She earned a Silver Medal at the Beijing Paralympics, and is working hard to better this the next time around.
Rachael regularly sails at her club, Royal Perth, with AB crews, and shows that, despite everything, she can still mix it up with us regular sailors. She also offshore on shorter races, and crews regularly comment on how at home she is aboard and how solid a crew she is despite only nine years of sailing.
Regardless of the level of sailing she is doing, she always carries herself with friendliness and sportsmanship. She is loved and respected in her local community and is a great ambassador not only for disabled sailing, but for sailing in general.
