The Rolex Ilhabela Sailing Week 2010 kicks off on July 17 for South America’s biggest keelboat regatta limited to 150 yachts. They will compete in this premier series which features classes using the ORCi rule. There is no IRC racing.

The annual regatta is hosted by the Ilhabela Yacht Club situated on the island just off the northern coast of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Last year the new Soto 40 yachts were all the talk and this year there will ten of the 40ft one design class rocking up to do battle. One of the new Soto 40s, ‘Magia V’, is owned by Volvo Ocean Race winner Torben Grael who will be up against some of South America’s best sailors sailing on the other Soto 40s. The latest two Soto 40s have been delivered to Chileans who will be racing at Ilhabela for the first time.

M Boats builder Javier Mendez sees this series as a milestone for the Class. "Getting ten yachts of any keelboat class on a startling these days is a great accomplishment and the Soto 40 Class is only a year old. We are now working to have the Class develop in other countries over the next 12 months".
