four down?

four down?

After an investigation lasting nearly half a year, the US Coast Guard has recommended that four of its officers be charged for running over a powerboat and killing a young boy last December. The tragedy happened during San Diego’s annual ‘parade of lights’, when a CG rescue boat took off at high speed to investigate a suspected grounding despite the late hour and hundreds of pleasure boats filling the harbor.  While we are somewhat confused that no commanding officer was charged with allowing this kind of behaviour to happen under his or her watch, we are hopeful that this incident, and the numerous related multi-million dollar lawsuits that the CG is facing, will help push the Coasties off a recent attitude that’s more Highway Patrol than the professional mariners that have earned the respect of so many sailors over the year.
