Reality from the Etchells 22 NA’s…

The regatta was well run, starts on time, very good lines, excellent RC work. With the  Catalina eddy it was  very difficult to know which way to go.  With a large swell it was hard to check which end was the best. The top 20 boats were very competitive which made everyone coming to the weather mark at the same time. Close stuff.

There were a lot of gains made at the gates if you were outside, it was easy to lose 10 boats..It all adds up and it is not easy to get them back.  In the end the best boat won (Bruce Gollison, Jud Smith, Bill Lynn and Dana Corsi) but it could have been completely different 2 minutes form the end. Bruce Nelson came on really strong with two bullets on the last day and Gollison squeaked out a 12th in the final race to win by two points over Nelson. Racing at the finest!

We talked to Dave Ullman (11th) who said "We just didn’t have speed. We worked really hard to get ready for this regatta, but just were not fast, and it was surprising. Back to the drawing board"

If you think you know how to sail, buy a E-22 and find out what reality is all about. Hope you like 25th…..
