A sportfishing crew found Tom Kirschbaum’s body four miles off of Long Beach today, Long after the massive search operation was called off for the SoCal singlehander. He was found with his PFD and harness on, and hopefully the autopsy carried out over the next few days will help explain why this kind of tragedy happened to someone with Kirschbaum’s experience and his reputation as an extremely safe sailor. We’ll bring you the results when we hear of them, and our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and the many Anarchists who considered him a friend. Add your thoughts here, and have a look at this video to see the kind of conditions he might have faced. Photo from SF Bay Singlehanded Sailing Society.
