death in venice

A well-regarded singlehander’s Folkboat washed ashore in Venice Beach, CA yesterday without its owner, Singlehanded Transpac vet  Tom Kirschbaum.  Kirschbaum was headed back to the mainland on a routine delivery back from a singlehanded race to Catalina Island, and encountered the same seas that SA’er ‘Doctor Mike’ described as "like some sort of alien planet. We had swells of 12 feet or more, with breaking waves in the channel, coupled with 30 knots of breeze."

Helicopters and a CG cutter have been searching for Kirschbaum for more than a day now, but numerous SA’ers who know him are holding out for some good news.  Check in on the thread. Photo courtesy Katie Falkenberg.
