In response to the response (bad, man) of my response (change is bad) about the proposed Olympic changes (the new way). Anarchist Campbell.

Fleet racing may be the "de facto result of not saying no to bad sailors like you". as you say. But in an olympic year the athletes are already required to qualify for their event by being the best sailor in that class in their country. In fact, even in the new US system sailors are required to race an uber competitive international calendar to get a shot at the olympics. Also, countries are only allowed to send one boat in each class (and many don’t send one). The olympic regatta is surely the exception to the rule as it is truly only the best sailors. No happy spankers cruising through the line on port or capsizing on top of the windward mark or crashing head on into a pin wheel at the bottom mark. These are people who have already been forced through probably the most stringent qualification for any regatta in the world. why should they need to be weeded out once they get there. My point was not that the system right now is perfect but that if the olympics wants match racing t hen they should just do match racing. But changing the format in the middle of the race changes the standards for everyone involved and allows spankers who maybe just had one lucky race at the beginning of the regatta to squeak through more easily.
