safe cracker
From Chris Gasiorek and our friends from USMMA at King’s Point, comes this shot showing the kind of things that ocean racers should be learning under the guise of Safety At Sea programs – in this case, how to shore up a hull fissure and stop water ingress with a busted through-hull. No mids were harmed in the photo (see photo and video gallery here), as they’re not in the water – the bow section off Hasso Platner’s totaled "Morning Glory" was hooked up to a fire hose and some creativity to become the ‘sinking boat trainer’ at King’s Point. It’s a hell of an idea – why not try it at your club’s next SAS seminar?
We certainly don’t expect the Mids to need this lesson as they deliver ‘Genuine Risk’ up the coast tomorrow from Florida, though it pays to be prepared. Both Risk and Speedboat will take advantage of big Southerlies to get North in a hurry and get on schedule for the Bermuda run-ups.
