We broke the news a couple weeks ago that skiff and foil legend Julian Bethwaite had completed his newly designed Moth hull, with an eye toward getting the final product sailing soon.  Today, we get to break some more good news for competition in the Moth class – at least one of the rumored ‘new’ boats will be debuting at the European Champs in Switzerland.  Meet the Lanulfi Monstro, built in Italy and designed by Dave Lister – the man who Bora Gulari calls, with total honesty, "the fastest in the world" and Lea Sitja – Olympic Coach for the Gold medal winning spanish 49er squad, was Technical Co-ordinator for the Australian Sailing team in 2006, and is formally trained as a Naval Architect.

That’s saying something from a guy who is untouchable in the breeze and owns the outright moth speed record.  Lister routinely sails circles around the competition, even in moderate breeze and even at something like 200 lbs – and until now, on his own homebuilt moth.

The foil package remains a mystery for the moment, but we’ll surely get the scoop soon.  No one’s been able to touch Amac’s designs for a long, long time, so Lister’s craft will have its work cut out for it.   We’ll get a sailing report the minute someone gets wet, though the sex appeal of this piece of carbon art might make that sooner rather than later.  Until they get a website up and running, get details by e-mailing Dave.
