Twelve of the world’s baddest-ass national and navy-owned square riggers are taking part in Velas Sudamerica 2010, a celebration of tall ships and the maritime traditions in the nations of South America.  Over a half-million people vistited the monsters in Valparaiso over the weekend, with crowds of water-borne well-wishers escorting the fleet to sea in various craft.  This little Beneteau got a bit too friendly with the 119 meter, 3600 ton Chilean Navy ship ‘Esmeralda’, the big barque catching the cruiser’s masthead with a foretops’l brace and knocking her over.  A bit Photo from SeQuBu and more here. and there’s even a bit of video (at 0:38 here) showing the Bendy as she gets dragged along like a chihihauha tied to a Rottweiler…
