This boat is missing a retractable fin keel. A sailboat won’t tack through the wind without the proper keel below waterline. That being said I sailed this boat for two years in its current condition. The catch is that you have to jibe to turn. The solution to this situation would be attach a keel. This could probably be done by a diver while the boat remains in the water. I don’t know I never researched it. There is an indentation and pinhole to receive a keel. As far as safety without a retractable keel is concerned; I have had this boat leaned over past the rail, unintentionally, several times and she is incredibly sturdy and balanced. She sails on the rail wonderfully. The first year I owned the boat I only had the 150% genoa for a headsail. In SF Bay I learned that’s just insane. But I was out there. Leaning this boat in the 30-35 knot wind of oyster point regularly. She is sturdy even without the retractable keel. See for yourself…
