So what do you get when you get in a 12′ boat in near freezing weather? You die.

Hypothermia is the presumed cause of death for the two Ashtabula County men who died in a boat just off the Lake Erie shore Sunday, Ashtabula County Coroner’s Investigator Jim Baehr said. Preliminary autopsies on Barry Catron, 20, of Ashtabula, and Steven Bowling, 33, of North Kingsville, show no signs of drowning or physical trauma, Baehr said, and no foul play is suspected in the case.

The bodies were discovered in a stolen sailboat adrift off the Lake Erie shore in Conneaut Township Park on Sunday morning.

Catron and Bowling were found in the hull of the 12-foot sailboat at 8:30 a.m., Ashtabula County Coroner’s Investigator Richard Mongell said.

The boat was stolen from the Ashtabula Yacht Club on Saturday, Mongell said. The boat had no sail, no mast and no motor. From the Star beacon and more here
