I am a volunteer with a charity based in England called the Pioneer Sailing Trust.  We take young people to sea on a 150 year old gaffer.  More recently we have just finished building a new boatyard in which we will train young people from challenging backgrounds to become shipwrights. 

Our first restoration project was ‘Volante’ a 42ft gentleman’s yacht built and designed locally by a guy called John Harvey in 1870.  He also designed and built another boat called Volante in 1851 which raced against ‘America’ in that famous race you guys like so much!  We’re just lending it to you, you know!!  John Harvey then emigrated to the USA and designed yachts for members of the New York Yacht Club.
