Beach Party IV

Beach Party IV

Not exactly a beach party but close enough.  This happened last summer while sailing with a few friends in Coos Bay, OR.  Having a good time and forgetting to watch where we were going led to this.  I was attending a marine biology school over there at the time and ended up having to call my professor to come pick us up in a motor boat.  We left the boat anchored and planned on coming back the next day at high tide to retrieve her.

When I checked the next day through a spotting scope to make sure she was still there, it appeared that she was gone.  Instead an unknown man had ‘salvaged’ her and was taking off up the bay, motor running.  Needless to say my professor and I chased after him up the bay to where we found him pulled over to the side scrambling around on the boat.  With a short conversation explaining that he was on my boat and the no he did not get salvage rights he reluctantly got off and we gave him a ride to shore.  Once on board I noticed that every single line that could have been tied, wrapped, or knotted to something had been.  The anchor line had been wrapped completely around the boat.  Luckily, nothing had been stolen.  While sailing the boat back to the marina I kept saying "man, that is so weird," to which my professor replied, "not for Coos Bay"

Pretty lucky everything worked out so easily.  I didn’t have to worry too much about getting my boat unstuck as it was done for me and the man handed over the boat fairly easily.  Definitely could have been a much worse situation as the meth heads in Coos Bay can be quite unpredictable.  Anarchist Craig.
