Considering the usually clueless folks that make up many of US Sailing’s "awards panels," we don’t put much stock in the Rolex this or the US Sailing that award. But the sailors aren’t so picky; to them, who gives a crap where the award comes from so long as you’re recognized?
Fair enough, and in any event we’d never let the chance to congratulate one of our prominent anarchists – so a big shout out to Maureen McKinnon-Tucker (a/k/a Mrs. Rockhead) for her recent recognition as the US Olympic Sailing Committee’s Sportswoman of the year, Mo’s was awarded for continuing to kick ass in 2009, though in a Sonar instead of the Skud she won gold with with Nick Scandone last year.
But awards don’t pay the mortgage or airfare, so if you appreciate all the great things Maureen has done for disabled sailing – and she’s done a ton – go to her side and give her a tax-deductible holiday gift so she can keep proving that US paralympic sailing is the best out there. What are you waiting for?
