Agree to Disagree
Reports from Valencia Sailing and others that Alinghi, BMW/Oracle, and Valencia had reached preliminary agreement on much of the logistics of the coming DoGfight are apparently premature, despite glowing praise for the meeting by Bertarelli’s right-hand man, Lucien Masmejean. In fact, Alinghi spokesman Paco LaTorre was careful to point out that there was no agreement whatsoever. "We talked with Valencia and BMW Oracle Racing because there is a real possibility that require us to race in Spain. And we need to understand how to proceed in such cases we made contact with the parties," Paco told Mauro Melandri from Zerogradinord.
Despite Alinghi’s lack of agreement that there was any agreement, rumors continue to swirl that all parties want to see more than the Deed’s ‘first-to-two’ race requirement, and we understand that discussions are ongoing – but no one seems to want to admit it. Meanwhile, DoGzilla, along with her containers, rigs, and wing, are on a boat headed to Spain, with the big cheese cat scheduled for loading sometime this week.
Here’s the latest video from BMW Oracle – a beautiful montage of training shots, and here’s something from Alinghi showing how they treat questions from their fans. Nice.
