Over 100 children sailed in the 2009 RBC School Sailing Championship at the Cayman Islands Sailing Club. Sixteen short reaching races were held in 20 knots of wind. No penalty for hitting the mark, no penalty for accidentally hitting boats. First boat around the mark and back wins. Simple. Spectators watched and cheered. After all of the races, the best team won, the worst team came last, but EVERY CHILD WANTS TO RACE AGAIN. Keep if fun and they will come back. Simple. The next day was the Bacardi Laser National Championship. After one day of racing windward-leeward courses in 15-18 knots, four boats dropped out, including Cayman’s top youth sailor who, after capsizing in the third race and then hitting a mark, said, "let’s go 29er sailing." Watch a race here. Thanks to anarchist Michael.
