Kings High
As the sailboat racing landscape changes, organizers struggle to find the right formula for success in a crowded marketplace of regattas and distance races – and we like to point out the ones that get it right. The Phuket, Thailand King’s Cup seems to be one of those; it’s billed as Asia’s largest regatta, and this year more than 110 boats will race. The fastest class includes 5 TP52 (including Anarchist Tuf-Luf‘s Foxy Lady) in various trim and another 6 big racers, there is a big charter fleet, and in a major show of strength, multihulls represent some 20% of the total fleet. Organizers also brought back a dinghy element to the regatta for 2009, which was founded as a dinghy event. The on-shore action is legendary and the racing has a gorgeous backdrop – hopefully there will be wind to match.
