Old Jess, New Jess
Jesse Martin may be a bit of a knob, but he did make it around the world alone and unassisted at 17 years old – not an easy task for anyone. Martin went on to write two bestselling books and now has an documentary on one of his subsequent trips in the works, but it seems he’s ready to pass the torch to a newer, cuter sailor; Jessica Watson. While "youngest around" records are only a real accomplishment to the stupid, we’re quite happy to feature Jessica as a contestant for "cutest around," something that fits quite well with her cosmetics and fashion sponsors and the fact that she and her family seem to have prostituted themselves for Jess’s trip. But we like little Jess, and we’ll be following her voyage in detail – it’s got all the elements necessary for some great drama: Some cute jailbait, a difficult journey without sufficient preparation, the pressure of family, friends and sponsors – while we hope there’s no train wreck ahead, it’s going to be interesting to see if there is. Maybe she can get her teeth fixed too…
