Show and Tell
As usual, instead of being warm and cozy in a cheap hotel at my destination in Annapolis, I got a late start, spending three hours replacing my alternator, another two packing up the five cameras, two computers, three hard drives, and piles of connectors and chargers that follow me around like fleas on a dog’s ass. So now it’s 11:30 PM and I’m sitting behind the wheel at a rest stop on I-95 somewhere in North Carolina. Bubba is sitting in his truck next to me watching me type – leering, actually – with a cigarette dangling out the window, and I’m getting a little queasy thinking what he’s doing with the other hand.
Anyway, instead of getting a good night’s sleep, I’ll probably be rolling into the US Sailboat Show on zero sleep at around 7 AM, with just a couple hours to drop off this sportboat and get my gear together for our first live video webcast of the day. Our friends at Harken have provided us a nice spot from which to broadcast their big press conference at the show, where they will apparently be introducing some exciting new products that have been secret up until now. We’ll get the whole thing to you on our Justin.TV channel, which allows you to chat with me live during the conference if you have any questions you’d like to ask the Harken folks. Justin.TV also has a "watch later" feature that lets you start the broadcast from where you left off – some of you actually do have to work, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss sailing porn!
After the press conference we’ll be roaming around looking for interesting things to record, and thanks to the Anarchists, we’ve got plenty to investigate. We’re going to get some great stuff; interviews, new products, boat walkthroughs, and those hilarious Utimate Teflon pot and pan pitches – and we’ll present all of it to you during TWO LIVE SHOWS that will begin at 4:00 PM EST/9:00 PM GST/1:00 PM PST on both Thursday and Friday. This is, of course, the OTW Anarchy "Cocktail Hour" that started so successfully from Porto Cervo earlier this month, and after I run through the video from the day, we’ll have a group of fun guests to chat about whatever comes up – the state of the industry, racing on the Chesapeake, what’s hot and what’s cold, and whatever else you want to know.
If there’s anything you want to find out from this most important sailboat show in the US, check into the thread and let us know, and look there as well for any scheduling updates that may occur and to find out what booth we’re broadcasting from so you can come by. Also, feel free to chat on our Justin.TV channel during the show if you want clarification.
Just remember: For this one, I’m producer, director, writer, researcher, cameraman, interviewer, bartender, and everything else, so if you expect slick and smooth, that’s not going to happen. But I’m sleep deprived, and plan to be vodka-infused, so I can guarantee entertainment. We hope you enjoy it.
Here’s the exhibitor list. and a huge thanks to the sponsors that have made both this trip and our upcoming Melges 24 Worlds coverage possible – Point Loma Outfitting, Latis Yachting Solutions, and Velocitek. More sponsor slots are still available, so get in touch with us soon if you want to be part of this great month of lvie sailing coverage!
