One Off

The Trophée Clairefontaine is unlike any other sailing event. It happens once a year, in identical catamarans that aren’t used for anything else and it is for eight invited famous sailors, who come from the mono and multi worlds.

This year Michel Desjoyeaux was among those invited and, although the event clashed with the Istanbul Europa Race, he was determined to take part. Taking advantage of a stopover in Barcelona, Michel hared off to La Grande Motte, in France where, despite being too late for much in the way of practice, he finished second. No disgrace since Franck Cammas was the winner and such illustrious multihull sailors as Patrick Bidegorry and Loick Peyron trailed the Open 60 sailor. Pic from Jean-Marie Liot and more here.
