Pieter Taselaar’s rant about the Melges 20 Nationals last month makes more sense when you see his usual ride – the fully pro’d up Melges 32 “Bliksem” that went over to Italy from the US East Coast and kicked Italian ass up and down the last two M32 Euro Series events. They’re back over right now practicing for Worlds in Porto Cervo in ten days, and the other day the crew went out to practice in 25+ knots with a gnarly seaway running, with predictable – and wet – results. Even a rock star crew including Willem Van Waay, Bear Peet, and both Jeremy ‘troll’ Wilmot as well as bigger brother and 470 legend Nathan couldn’t save Taselaar as he drove it down the mine. There’s more sedate training here, but this one’s more fun. Isn’t this the way these things happen? One minute you’re good, the next, yer fucked….
