Knock Out
Nick Dempsey bounced back from his 4th place in the Qingdao Olympics, which was a major disappointment to him, and took the RS:X Worlds in Weymouth, signalling that he will be a force to be reckoned with on his home waters, in 2012. The last Olympic windsurfing world champion from Great Britain was Barry Edgington and that was back in 1992. Barry just happens to be Nick’s coach. Barry’s reign as the sole British Olympic Windsurfing World Champion also came to an end, but was happy that his protégé was the man to do it.
Going into the women’s medal race, Spanish windsurfer Marina Alabau just had to sail conservatively and not make any uncharacteristic mistakes. She didn’t and became the new RS:X Women’s World Champion. Pic from V. Baglione and plenty more here.
