Small World
Is it the North Atlantic or the Southern Ocean with a lonely sailboat? No, it is an impression of the 5th German Championship of the RG-65 r/-sailboats which took place on Aug 29 & 30 at Berliner Yacht Club, Berlin, Germany
37 boats from 4 nations came to Berlin to fight for two days under harsh conditions. Wind around 10knots with gusts between 20 and 25 knots is a lot for the small only 65cm long boats. There was a lot of damage like wet electronics, broken gear or leaking hatches, but nearly everything could be repaired within minutes. Only two boats had to give up.
In the end, our Dutch friends proved that they are used to strong winds and waves. Winner is Gerrit de Wilde (NED 32). Second is Harry Drenth (NED 11). Both skippers sailed a brand new RGForce65, a joint development of Gerrit and a professional designer. Third is last year’s winner Arne Semken (GER 09) with his new design Coriolis. – Anarchist Joachim.
