Pot Sweetened

Pot Sweetened

The entry list for the 2009 Melges 24 World Championship is starting to show a glimmer of hope this week, with 33 entries from 9 countries signed up for this ‘best of the best’ regatta.  It’s still late and light though, so we challenged our good friend Liz at the EYC to find something cool to give away for early entries – with thousands of you watching what will undoubtedly be our biggest On-The-Water Anarchy production ever at the Worlds, we want to see more boats too!

So Liz stepped up with a gorgeous piece of framed Melges 24 art from up-and-coming Annapolis area photog Sara Proctor (a frequent OTW Anarchy staffer and awesome chick), and anyone entered in the event by this Friday is eligible for the drawing.  To sweeten the pot, Liz is throwing in a gift certificate for crew dinner at a local Annapolis restaurant (worth $350.00) to the winner, which will be drawn at Annapolis Race Week, with prizes given out during the Worlds opening ceremony.  But you MUST register this week or you can’t win!

It is a damned shame that a host of factors are going to keep numbers to 50-60 for this event instead of the 100 that we’d expect from a well-planned, well-scheduled Melges 24 Worlds, but judging from how Liz, Sara, and the rest of the nappy sportboat crowd are working on this, it should still be pretty epic, assuming the class officials don’t fuck it up!

On another note, we are getting our advertising programs together for our live Worlds coverage now, so if your company is interested in being part of the best value in sailing sponsorship, and wants to reach tens of thousands of enthusiastic sailors during either Melges 32 Worlds in Porto Cervo or 24 Worlds in Annapolis, let us know right away!  As Moth Worlds coverage sponsor Andrew Macdougall from Mach 2 Boats said, “I simply cannot believe what a great job you guys do, and how much impact On-The-Water Anarchy has had on our potential customers!  We can’t wait to do this again with you!”
