Border Wars

Sarnia, Ontario-based “Critical” took a big lead at the end of 3 races at the 2009 Beneteau 36.7 North American Championship today, the Canadians scoring a 3,1,3.  With Brad Boston on tactics and a bunch of sportboat vets including Lee Shuckerow and Eric Vigrass aboard, owner Claudio Martin was always in the right spot to lead American Chris Carrol’s “Twins” and Melges 24 owner Richard Reid’s “Zingara,” also Canadian.  With a course that is more in Canadian waters than US, maybe the Canadians are the home team for this Detroit based event?  Today’s breeze was light and shitty…I mean shifty, not surprising on Lake St. Clair in August, though the rest of the weekend is looking a bit better.  Check out videos and pics of the crowded starts and painful downwind legs in our On-The-Water Anarchy “lite” coverage here, and tune in tomorrow for on board text coverage from the deck of Natalie J, currently in a disappointing 7th place despite a bullet in race 1.
