Class 40 Worlds – on board Keysource
We rolled into the worlds in Hamble feeling pretty competitive. The Fastnet was pretty tough tactically but nowhere near as hairy as last time when we double handed a 105 to second in that nasty race. We placed 5th out of 19 starters in the Fastnet – with Tanguy De Lamotte winning the Fastnet on Novedia he was the main man to watch.
On the Tuesday the Royal Southern laid on some practice starts which were great for us to help bed in Tim Thubron our new tactician and Sam Richmond on trim – the other 4 of us have had quite a bit of racing time on board this season.
They also put on a practice race – we were in the top three most of the way round – Tanguy looking pretty fast when we misjudged a lay line and ended up fending off one the large channel markers (I think Pike pictures caught us on this one looking very guilty!) – didn’t bother taking our turns as it was a practice race and on the last leg to the finish when we were leading we bore away and sailed past the line rather than through it – Tanguy took the race.
