Many of the competitors in the Class 40 Worlds have been taken by surprise this week; firstly by the great sunny British weather and secondly by the strength of the tides in the Solent, which are due to increase as we come into springs at the end of the week. Local knowledge is a big plus in the Solent and Hamble sailor, Simon Clarke, led the way from start to finish in today’s first race. He was closely followed by Tanguy de Lamotte on board Initiative Saveurs and Mike West on board Keysource. The second race of the day saw the course shortened, when the sea breez failed to materialize, leaving Andrew Dawson and his crew in first place. The mixed results have left the Championship wide open and the points for the Round the Island Race tomorrow are weighted leaving all to play for. This artistic shot is from a photog who is new to us, Mike Jones, but we expect to see more of his work. More of his images, artistic and straight, are here.
